Twitter Tip: Welcome New Followers to Your PLN with a Personal Twist

I’m going to let you in on a little secret about how I build the connection with my PLN. For this secret to work, it’s always great if users have profile information available!

Ready? Here it is…

If someone follows me on twitter, I try my best to welcome them into my PLN with a personal touch.

Example…Look at the profile below! Looking at her profile, I see that she is a Thinkfinity Field Trainer. See the welcome tweet that I sent her!

Here is another example. Look at her profile. I actually went directly to her blog link. I try to build the conversation with what sticks out to me. (grrr to typos, always check those)  =)

On her blog is a post about her students taking a trip to China. This is how I welcomed her to my PLN along with her response!

Adding the personal touch is not only a great way to  build a conversation but it’s also an amazing way to ease the twitter fears for those that are new to twitter. The profile also helps me determine if I want to follow back and add to my PLN. The more that you tell about yourself, the better!

  1. Great post, very thoughtful advice for building PLN relationships! I just wish more people would read this and refrain from the automatic DM’s that one sometimes gets upon following, those are so impersonal!

  2. About a week ago, I started sending a personal message when someone followed me letting them know I was glad to have them as part of my PLN and followed them back. My message wasn’t automated at all, but the tweets sometimes sounded the same. I really like this idea of adding an even more personal flair. Thanks Rafranz!

    1. Ah, Will. Always love your comedic relief.
Rafranz, This is great. I have started to welcome new tweeps in similar fashion, with at least a “pleasure to meet you”-type reply if not an informed reply as you have demonstrated here. You’ve taken it a notch above, and have inspired me to do the same. Thanks.

Oh wow! Thanks. I just share my journey. If you like, join me and if not that is fine too 🙂

We each have our own. I like William’s comedic relief too! He challenges my thinking with it and I appreciate that!
