What Inspires Me: Deonte Bridges

In Random by rafranzdavis2 Comments

A year ago, I watched what I thought was one of the most amazing valedictory speeches I have ever seen.

Deonte Bridges, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, literally brought me to tears in a matter of 4 minutes and 58 seconds.

Deonte’s speech still reminds me of why I got into education…why I wanted to become a teacher…for kids like Deonte who are looking for a path to a world bigger than they even sometimes dared to dream for themselves.

Regardless of what goes on with state funding, how big our classes may get or how many resources we now have to leave behind…We still have the God-given task of reaching the Deonte’s of the world and creating even more inspiring teachable moments as he did May 28, 2010.
